Solvay is a global company that was created in the year 1863. It was created as a company of Chemists, and with historical inception in Europe, the company has now spread to many markets worldwide. The focus of the company has been on ensuring that the quality of life is improved through its products, and superior customer performance is delivered.With a site presence in more than 139 different sites in 58 countries, it has made them a global leader in their game.
Solvay as a multi-specialty chemical company works with an array of clients when it comes to addressing product and process related issues. The company promotes sustainability and is a learning organization. Innovation is at the core of the organization and it can be identified that the company headquartered in Brussels is seen to have a much of its profits from its international ventures which brings into focus of the need to develop HRM and IHRM practices. Furthermore, the work done in the company from manufacturing to delivery is very time sensitive and requires a strong level of safety. This has to be emphasized at HR recruitment level to ensure that the company is able to take in only the right candidates that are able to understand and work with the company’s focus on safety. In the long run, the company would be able to make use of such highly planned recruits in a better way. In the context that Solvay works regularly on optimizing its processes, improving the productivity of the company and its competitive structuring for satisfying its customers, it is critical that those elements must be presented as well.
The scenario for which this report is written is where the recruitment team of Solvay at the Póvoa’s factory is currently hiring. There are hiring needs arisen for working with the component Calcium derivatives. This is a new component and it is necessary to hire a team, meaning more than one member at this point. A group of five people might need to be hired and of this group, it is necessary that some of them are ready to work in shifts and even travel to the United Kingdom when they have to train. An adequate training, soft skills and educational requirements will be included as part of the recruitment, training and development processes.
The purpose of this proposal is to present recruitment and selection strategies, employer branding and training and development enhancement to the existing human resource practices at Solvay. In addition, the proposal will highlight safety at work as a key incorporation for the future human resource management policies at company.
The methodological approach that is used for the purpose of hiring the right candidates is presented here. The method applied here is one where a mix of 1) employer branding techniques will be used, 2) the actual interview will be conducted with a differentiated set of processes, instead of following just one interview technique.
