In terms of internal requirements there are many codes of practices that are derived directly to meet the WHS requirements. Some of these codes are AS4804:2001 which is the Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems – General guidelines, the AS4801:2001 which is the Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems, the AS/NZS ISO 31000:2009 and the AS/NZS ISO 19011 which are the Guidelines for Quality and/or Environmental Management Systems.
In terms of legislation, the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 NSW and the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 NSW are the two key acts in the NSW context. The Work Health and Safety Act 2011 NSW provides for:
A nationally balanced and consistent framework in order to secure the health and safety of workers and workplaces
The Act aims to protect workers and other people involved in the workplace from health, safety harms and attempts to eliminate completely or minimize such harms (in the current workplace the recommendation for emphasis on record keeping will be helpful to handle the issues)
The Act will provide for fair and effective representation in the workplace. No employee issues or reports on risk will be sidelined. Equal representation will exist along with cooperation in the context of issue resolution
