I believe some subjects were more appealing and interesting to me even when I was a young student. My personal interest, for instance, was playing Sudoku, and my fascination for the game was because of my positive inclination to Math. Even as a child, I remember being interested in understanding the decimal notations of the “pi”. My intent to pursue software engineering was seeded during a “Cup of Hope” National Mathematics Invitational Contest in #Year and month in #location. My math teacher selected me and informed me that I had a month to prepare. As I worked through different Math Olympics questions in order to prepare for the test, I found that it was a natural skill for me to solve math problems. Even with the very short time for preparations, I was still awarded the third prize of at least a thousand other candidates. The achievement instilled a confidence in me to pursue a Math major, and my teacher enabled me to see the connection from being a strong major in Math to apply the same skills in programming. This instilled in me the intent to pursue computer science and engineering in the future. The interest motivated me to participate in extracurricular science-related activities and to visit science museums.

I think that a successful software developer not only needs a proficient programming skills and strong math background, more importantly, the person needs the skills to be observant and thoughtful of how problems could be solved with such skills. I like applying computer technology to real world problems. In my high school, the value of environment protection was embedded almost in every class subject: physics, chemistry and Geography etc. I was very disappointed with Beijing current haze pollution and hope to change it by my effort. I found that our people do not realize how seriously bad that garbage has effected on our environment. I desire to create a game application for a MOOC open platform style of game that helps teach them how to figure out different types of garbages and how to protect their environment. The game will be designed to teach children how to recognize differences between wasted and recycled garbages and injected environment knowledge as they are playing games. Secondly, I believe my pursuit of higher education in computer science and technology is clearly reflected in my sustained interest.
