Creativity and innovation are relevant to the firm as the firm operates in the consumer end technology sector where it is necessary to stay competitive. Google has many competitors defined by its technology sectors. When one considers the Google product of the search engine alone, then the competitors of Google are Bing and other search engines. On the other hand, in other technologies it is Apple and Amazon, etc. This is because Google focuses on multiple products and hence it is necessary that there be innovation at all levels. Different technologies might require different levels of creativity (Leong, 2013).
Creativity and innovation are significant to the firm and Google understand this as seen in its current reports. In terms of employees, Google has recognized what is called a 20 percent use time, where the employee could use 20 percent time of their everyday work on creative projects within the company. This ensures that the employees of Google are aligned to their interests. The employees are empowered so that they can explore their creativity and strengths to the maximum.
