The key aim in this paper lies in critically analyzing one specific argument presented in literature with regard to resorts or spas operations and development. The topic selected is resort ownership. The argument on which the paper is developed is related to resort ownership on whether hotels should be independent or whether there should be a chain of resorts. This is from the perspective of operators operating the report and spas independently. The issue with independent operators is that resorts require multiple perspectives and responsibilities related to these perspectives which need to be followed and implemented within the operations. However, independent operators at times find it difficult to handle multiple units of their hotels since the needs, challenges and implication for each hotel and spas are different. Therefore, the debate of brand versus being independent has become popular within the resort or hotel management field.
