Firstly, it is imperative to understand that an ideal parenting style is not acquired, but it is developed over a period of time. In adopting the right set of parenting strategy, the experts reflect that the psychological framework of parents will inevitably influence the mental setup of a child. In the light of this context of understanding, Belsky’s determinants of parenting have been employed. It assists in identifying the three prominent domains involved in negatively affecting a child psychology (Egberts, Prinzie, Deković, De Haan, & van den Akker, 2015). It has been contended that the parents with chronic mental illness are likely to leave a negative impact on their child. The children are negatively influenced as they witness their parents in a state of perpetual mental abnormality (Laukannen et al., 2016). Apart from the clinical reasons, external factors like anxiety and depression in the parents are manifested negatively in the relationship with their children. Consumption of the antidepressants and the relevant medications often exhibit negative side effects. These are considered unhealthy in monitoring child growth or imparting a role parental model. It has been noticed that often in such cases that the offspring of such parents exhibit antisocial behaviour when placed in the wider social platforms like schools, playgroups, and other interactive communities. They are often introverting in nature and exhibit misguided parental impacts. Besides, a conceptual overview has also been provided on the parenting styles. Parenting styles are broadly determined in terms of the authoritative, authoritarian, permissive and neglectful (Larzelere, Morris, & Harrist, 2013). Each of these parenting styles has its respective impacts. It depends on the parents to make the right parenting style selection, in order to encourage the performance potential of their children. However, it must also be noted that parenting styles are also subjected to certain external challenges. These challenges are often realised in the form of acculturation, intercultural diversity and deciding the appropriate cultural framework for a child. These challenges could be better understood through the application of Berry’s 4 Fold Model (Sangawi, Adams, & Reissland, 2014). It is, therefore, essential that communication, bonding, and participation in different cultural events are encouraged in children. It would assist the children in overcoming the potential challenges in terms of social development.
