Canada proudly fought for the Red Ensign during the World Wars. However, the nation wanted to make changes based on the newer demographics and ideology prevailing in the region. Liberal party leader Lester B. Pearson wanted a new nationalistic identity based on these newer changes in Canada. It was an emotional time for the Canadian people. The majority of the people wanted a new flag. The public was actively involved in the design of the flag as well. Children, business and the citizens all sent in drawings and collages for the flag. In general, there was a change in the attitude of the people and this was the reason for the increased commitment to bring in new flag design. The people wanted a newer identity that was different. The designs were sent to the committee (Fox 45). The committee received thousands of designs. Numerous possibilities and flag designs were sent to the flag committee for the consideration.
