It is a story of the cultural mistrust and the false accusations which led to the end of the friendship in the Indian Doctor, an Englishwoman who has been engaged to marry the magistrate of the city and an English Educators.
All the actors gave great performances in the movie. This was the movie that clearly described the incompatibility which is there between East and West. The movie describes each of the sources from the novel in the proper manner and led to the creation of a good movie which was ideal for conveying the multiplicity associated with the life of the person. The movie is vast in physical scale and has been set against the tumultuous Indian background. In spite of the same, the movie has intimate and comic scenes. The story of the movie and the novel is a grand sorrowful tale.
The story is set in the fictitious provincial city of Chandrapore in the years of 1920. This was the time when the British rule had been constantly threatened by the kings and the Indian people. A passage to India is the story which gives the replication of what actually can happen when there are wrong decisions and dreadful misunderstandings. The initial scenes of the movie have been shot in London. The real story starts when Mrs. Moore comes to Chandrapore from England to visit his son Ronny Heaslop who is a British Magistrate and his fiancé.
