During 1960s and 1970s China experienced many changes among which the major one was ideological separation from Communist Party of Soviet Union. The separation movement was initiated with the view that existence of class enemies was causing extremely damaging effects to the economy which needed to be corrected. It was the end of pure communism which is responsible for making China a second largest economy of the world.  China pursued the policy of trade openness which resulted in increased purchasing power of its residents. Consumption of luxury goods also increased along with high growth rates of GDP. Among luxury items consumption of wine and spirits experienced high growth rates during past few years. Initially up till the communist age the only drink which was common in the country was baijiu and it was a traditional drink of China. However, later on along with the passage of time as intervention in China from outside world increased in the form of foreign investments in the country, trend to take alcoholic and foreign origin drinks become common. Initially, economic development of China became the reason to introduce increased utilization / consumption of wine along with rice in drinking propensities. Before financial integration of the country only a small proportion of buyers in the drink market of a country were able to bear the costs of alcoholic beverages. After that living standards of China’s working class got improved and this enabled a large number of populations to afford these beverages.
