Polyimide/silica–titania (PI/SiO2–TiO2) is found to be an important hybrid film component that is used in the in situ sol–gel process. The PI precursor are poly (amic acid) (PAA) is found to contain 2, 2’-bis [4-(4-aminophenoxy)-phenyl] propane (p-BAPPP), 3, 3’, 4, 4’- benzophenetetracarboxylic anhydride (BTDA) and 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APrTMOS) compounds. To this compound phenyltrimethoxysilane was added to fabricate PI/SiO2–TiO2 film. It was found that the amount of Silicon on the surface of the hybrid was more in concentration when compared to the other bulk compounds. The distribution of the Ti was also found to hybrid films. The 3-D structures of Si O Si, Si O Ti, and Ti O Ti were analyzed. It was found that the films with PTMS had better functionality and functional contact angles than the pure PI. This is because of the nonpolar segments, such as C2H6 or benzene groups. On addition of Ti (OEt) 4, some of the hydrophilic segments on the surface of the hybrids were found to be induced owing to the formation of crosslinked structure. It was found that the denser crosslinked molecular structure had a lower concentration of the CTE and higher concentration of Tg. On comparison of the compound it was found that the composition of the metal oxide and its functionality improved with the PI hybrid. This shows the innate potential of the hybrid components in the industrial production of the materials.
