Supply chain is a network of operations between a company and the suppliers for manufacturing, production and distribution of products. There needs to be a formalized mandate for the companies to ensure that there are smooth operations between the companies (Christopher, 2016). Having an effective supply chain management is a crucial process that enables the company to have smooth flow of operations and ensure that the production cycle is consistent with the requirements. Owing to the fact that it is crucial for the companies to sustain by having a robust supply chain, the management tries to develop an integrated supply chain process that will be effective. There is a need for supply chain integration. The supply chain integration comprises of sales, logistics, engineering and purchase decisions. The representative of other departments will also be involved in the process to ensure that there is a proper operational flow (Monczka et al., 2015) . Companies try to develop their own heuristics process to ensure that they maintain the operational productivity.
The purpose of this analysis is to understand the working dynamics of the integrated supply chain and understand the nuances of the process. The reasons for collaboration depends on how the operational and the subjective needs of the company. Some of the reasons as to why the firms choose to collaborate have been discussed in the subsequent section.
Reasons for collaboration of the firms
There have been many advantages that have been documented by the firms by the process of collaboration.
In the case of competitive environment, it can be increasingly difficult to sustain in the current markets. A number of suppliers are increasingly targeting the same market demography. The firms need to have a robust process in place to address the requirements of the current consumers (Stadtler, 2015). Pricing is an important component to sustain. Nevertheless, the issue of quality and ensuring the service marketing standards are equally important.
It has been found that the firms that sustain in the dynamic markets are the firms that have a competent buyer and supplier relationship. By having a process in place where there is efficient collaboration between the stakeholders, there will be lowering of costs that has been involved. Plausible hurdles are reduced in this process, thus increasing efficiency and reducing costs.
In the companies, there is a more horizontal integration by joint venture process found to easily sustain in the global markets (Stadtler, 2015).
