The treadmill of production theory states that the attention should be towards productivity and holistic living. This is about value creation and instilling the ideology to grow and sustain. A number of processes require energy and resources for the people. Moreover, these processes are necessary to generate increase production to surplus. The ideology is based on the theory that human is in a state of flux. They are in reality a constant flow of energy between the different elements of nature. They are all interacting with the world around them and invariably themselves to create a schema where all the people need to move towards progressive agenda.
Schnaiberg’s political capitalism is about the relationship between the three groups. They are the state or political actors, capital groups and labour (Healy, Martinez-Alier and Kallis, 2015). The innate desire for the economic expansion is the common theme that is prevalent in all of these three groups. Hence, they try to postpone their conflicts by addressing the economic growth. The political capitalism is to work in a manner that is against the economic expansion. It is important to use the alliances for labour. This acceleration is not a mere informal alliance. It is based on the monopoly capital and exploitation of the workers for the capital consolidation (Baer, 2015).
Schnaiberg alludes that these would cause irrevocable damages to the state-political and labour-supported institutions in the society. These would in fact cause the whole system to break and act as a catalyst for the destruction of the economy. Schnaiberg states that an innate need for deceleration that would lead to a more harmonious or progressive agenda. In this, the state of the economy should be based on the smaller level of economic growth. The growth definition needs to be changed into something where there is a common alliance towards improvement in the quality of life and ensuring ecological sustenance. These are some of the important tenets which state that the capitalism cannot be adhered completely without factoring in other elements.
